The client first approached me on this project initially looking for advice... was the current uninhabited factory even viable as a home? 

 

We discussed several options at length and they decided to make an offer to purchase the commercial property.

Shortly after completing on the purchase JWBA were appointed to begin designing the conversion which included demolishing a large warehouse + extending the original factory building; which had also previously been a bakery, grain house and stables! 

​

The building had bundles of character and a big challenge during the project was maintaining this whilst also bringing the buildings 'fabric' up to modern standards.

The result is a wonderful family home with a lovely balance between private and social spaces. Exposed original floor joists, black painted steel work, exposed red brick and Crittall style glazing provide an honest representation of the original industrial building whilst also providing a comfortable and warm place to live.

The building works were completed in the summer of 2022.
